The Battle of Mexico City (September 12, 1847)
Even though being exiled... guess who's back? That's right it is Santa Anna again! He returned from Cuba to Mexico and formed an army of 25,000 to defend the capital of Mexico in Mexico City. The person who was invading Mexico City was General Scott. As he approached the city, Scott realized that he was outgunned 5:1. The Mexicans were defending the city from a monastery, but Santa Anna messed up again. His poor tactics caused his men to run out of ammo. Again, the Mexicans could not catch a break. Even getting more ammo failed. When they actually did get more ammo, the cartridges were the wrong size and they could not be used in their guns. The Americans took advantage of this and stormed the fort with their bayonets. Again, Santa Anna flees, but before he does, he arms a large group of prisoners and frees them. However the try was fruitless because other Mexicans actually stop them.
